Native American Guardians Association (NAGA)
is proud to announce a significant leadership transition as it enters 2026 with renewed vision and energy.

New president

Effective January 1, 2026, NAGA has named

Becky Clayton-Anderson as its new President, ushering in a new chapter of growth and advocacy for the organization. Clayton-Anderson has been an active voice in defending respectful Native-themed names and imagery in education and public life, and steps into this role with a deep commitment to NAGA’s mission.

Cultural background
Clayton-Anderson is an enrolled Hidatsa Native American from the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation) in North Dakota, whose homelands are centered on the  Fort Berthold Reservation. Her Indian name is Nagaguish, meaning “The Last One,” reflecting a
personal and cultural legacy rooted in endurance, identity, and responsibility to community.

Leadership strengths
Clayton-Anderson brings to the Presidency strong leadership skills with a particular emphasis on communication, team building, and fostering relationships that will guide NAGA’s work with schools, communities, and partners nationwide. Her collaborative style and ability to connect with diverse stakeholders will help strengthen NAGA’s educational outreach and advocacy in
2026 and beyond.

New Vice President

Joining her in this new era of leadership, NAGA is also appointing

David Finkenbinder as Vice President, supporting the President in organizational strategy, outreach, and day-to-day leadership responsibilities. Finkenbinder is an enrolled member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe in South Dakota. His Indian name is Wanblee Ohitika, meaning “Brave Eagle,” symbolizing courage, vision, and dedication to serving Native communities.

Together, President Clayton-Anderson and Vice President Finkenbinder will work to advance NAGA’s core mission: to promote Native American history, honor Native contributions, and support the respectful use of Native names and imagery through education rather than erasure.
